RedHawks Drop to Jacksonville State and No. 6 UGA

ATHENS, Ga. – On Friday afternoon, the Miami University softball team fell to Jacksonville State University 8-7. The RedHawks led nearly the entire game before the Gamecocks were able to walk it off in the bottom of the seventh. Jacksonville State moves to 8-13 on the season. Miami then went on to drop 13-2 to No. 6 Georgia in five innings. Georgia moves to 16-3 on the season and the RedHawks drop to 13-5.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
  • In the top of the first, Jenna Golembiewski hit a solo home run over left field to grab a 1-0 lead for the RedHawks.
  • The Gamecocks tied it up 1-1 in the bottom of the second on their own solo home run.
  • Golembiewski took the lead back for Miami in the top of the third with another solo home run to make it a 2-1 game.
  • In that same inning, Holly Blaska hit a two-run homer where Karli Spaid also scored. Sami Bewick later hit a sacrifice groundout that scored Kate Kobayashi to push the RedHawk lead to 5-1.
  • In the bottom of the third, Jacksonville State cut the lead to 5-3 on a pair of solo home runs.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, another home run from Jacksonville State further shortened the deficit to 5-4.
  • The RedHawks pushed their lead to 6-4 on an RBI single from Reagan Bartholomew that scored Chloe Parks in the top of the sixth inning.
  • Spaid upped the lead again in the top of the seventh when she hit a solo homer over left field to make it a 7-4 game.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, the Gamecocks tied it up 7-7 on a three-run homer. An RBI single then won them the game with a 8-7 final.
 
NOTES:
  • Spaid, Blaska, and Golembiewski each had homers (Golembiewski had two).
  • The RedHawks had seven total extra-base hits.
  • Spaid went 2-for-3 at the plate and Golembiewski went 2-for-4.
  • Addy Jarvis and Ashley Hitchcock each went three innings in the circle.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
  • A solo homer and a two-run homer from the Bulldogs put three runs across in the bottom of the first to give them a 3-0 lead.
  • Still in the bottom of the first, three RBI singles, including a two-run single, and a bases-loaded walk put the Bulldogs up 8-0.
  • In the top of the fifth, a homer from Golembiewski drove in Allie Cummins and put the RedHawks on the board with an 8-2 score.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, a walk with the bases loaded scored one for the Gamecocks. Later that same inning a grand slam put Georgia ahead 13-2 to finish the game in five innings.
 
NOTES:
  • Golembiewski went 2-for-3 at the plate and had a home run.
  • Cummins had a double.
  • Madilyn Reeves and Hitchcock each had appearances in the circle.
