OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University women's basketball team dropped a 56-46 decision to the Northern Illinois Huskies on Wednesday night.
Amber Tretter led Miami (8-20, 5-12 MAC) with 16 points, while Sidney McCrea had 15 points for the Huskies (14-15, 7-10 MAC).
Miami led 30-20 with 7:48 left in the third quarter before NIU answered with a 23-5 run in an eight-minute span to help claim the victory. Miami was 5-of-23 from behind the arc, while NIU connected on 8-of-17 three pointers.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Both teams got off to a slow start offensively, with Hennessey Luu-Brown hitting a three-pointer from the right wing to get Miami on the board. The RedHawks held the visitors to 3-of-17 shooting from the field (17.6%) in the first quarter and trailed 7-3 after 10 minutes of play.
- After NIU started the second period on a 7-0 run, the RedHawks responded with a Katey Richason three-point play and an Amber Tretter jumper pulled the RedHawks to within 14-8. Cori Lard's triple, followed by back-to-back jumpers from Tretter gave Miami its first lead of the game, 15-14 midway through the quarter. Miami led 21-18 at the half.
- Tretter and Luu-Brown combined to score all nine of Miami's points in a 9-2 run to begin the third as the RedHawks raced out to a 30-20 advantage. NIU led 40-35 with 10 minutes to play, closing the quarter on a 20-5 run.
- NIU stretched their advantage to 47-38 three minutes into the final stanza, before Tretter's triple made it 47-41. The Huskies scored the game's next four points and the RedHawks never threatened again.
GAME NOTES:
- With 13 points versus the Huskies, Katey Richason has now scored in double-digits in seven of her last 10 games.
