OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University men's basketball team saw its three-game winning streak snapped Tuesday night, falling to Toledo 97-63 at Millett Hall.
Eian Elmer led the RedHawks (15-15, 9-8 MAC) with 18 points, while Tyler Cochran finished with 22 for the Rockets (19-11, 13-4 MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After Toledo opened the game on an 11-0 run, Mekhi Cooper got the RedHawks on the board with a driving layup. The Rockets continued their fast start, taking an early 21-point lead before Elmer knocked down a three-pointer and followed that with a dunk to make it 28-10.
- Elmer stopped Toledo's next run with a shot from behind the arc at the four-minute mark, followed by baskets from Jaquel Morris and Ryan Mabrey. Miami scored on its final two possessions of the half, as Reece Potter's putback and a triple from Mabrey gave the RedHawks some momentum, but the visitors maintained a 54-24 lead at the break.
- The RedHawks started strong with a three-point play from Cooper, and Elmer pulled Miami within 56-32 on a pair of free throws and a reverse layup. Near the midway point of the half, the Red and White scored six straight points on a Morris putback and Potter's two mid-range shots.
- Anderson Mirambeaux drained a pair of shots from long-distance in the space of less than a minute to spark Miami's offense late, but Toledo was able to limit any potential RedHawk comeback hopes. Bradley Dean hit two threes in the final 60 seconds to cap the scoring for the home team, but the Rockets closed out the game with a 97-63 victory.
GAME NOTES:
- Elmer hit a career-high three three-pointers.
- Evan Ipsaro matched his career high with seven assists.
- Four different RedHawks recorded at least one blocked shot.
