RedHawks Grab a Pair of Run-Rule Wins over Kansas City and Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. – On Sunday afternoon the Miami University softball team routed the University of Missouri-Kansas City 16-6 in five innings. Twelve strikeouts from Madilyn Reeves and 11 RBI combined from Karli Spaid and Jenna Golembiewski helped the RedHawks to victory. Kansas City drops to 6-13 on the season. The Red and White then went on to shut out the University of Tulsa 8-0 in five innings. Miami moves to 13-3 on the season and Tulsa drops to 11-7.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
  • A three-run homer from the Roos in the top of the first gave Kansas City an early 3-0 lead.
  • In the bottom of the first, Spaid and Kate Kobayashi hit a pair of three-run homers to also put Jenna Golembiewski, Allie Cummins, Chloe Parks, and Holly Blaska across the plate and give Miami the 6-3 lead.
  • Still in the first, Golembiewski hit a grand slam that also scored Cummins, Hadley Parisien, and Mckenna Campbell, extending the RedHawk lead to 10-3.
  • Sami Bewick finished off the first inning scoring for the RedHawks with a RBI single that scored Blaska, making it an 11-3 game.
  • In the top of the second a Kansas City RBI triple cut the deficit to 11-4.
  • Parisien hit a RBI single in the bottom of the second and put Campbell across the plate. Later in the same inning, Golembiewski hit a RBI single of her own that scored Parisien to up the lead to 13-4.
  • On a RBI single and a throwing error, the Roos managed to get two across in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to 13-6.
  • Spaid hit her second three-run homer of the game in the bottom of the fourth. Golembiewski and Maddi Banks also scored to widen the margin to 16-6, which would also be the game's final.
 
NOTES:
  • Spaid had six RBI with two home runs.
  • Golembiewski had five RBI and one homer.
  • Cummins and Golembiewski went 3-for-3 at the plate.
  • Blaska and Campbell went 2-for-3 at bat.
  • Golembiewski, Spaid, and Kobayashi recorded home runs.
  • The RedHawks had 15 hits in just five innings.
  • Reeves went the distance on the rubber, earning the win and recording 12 strikeouts.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
  • On a passed ball in the top of the second, Kobayashi crossed the plate to grab a 1-0 lead for the RedHawks.
  • On a sac groundout from Spaid in the top of the third, Parisien crossed the plate to double the lead to 2-0.
  • Reagan Bartholomew hit a three-run homer over left field that also scored Sami Bewick and Parks in the top of the fourth to push the Miami lead to 5-0.
  • A RBI single from Golembiewski that scored Parisien in that same inning upped the RedHawks' lead to 6-0.
  • In the top of the fifth the RedHawks further pushed their lead to 8-0 on a RBI double from Kobayashi that scored Blaska and a RBI single from Bewick that scored Kobayashi.
  • The RedHawks held this lead through the conclusion of the fifth to take the game 8-0 in five innings.
 
NOTES:
  • Kobayashi, Parks, and Parisien went 2-for-3 at the plate.
  • Bartholomew had a home run and knocked three RBI.
  • Kobayashi had a pair of doubles.
  • The Red and White notched 10 hits in the short game.
  • Addy Jarvis pitched the complete 5-inning game, allowing only five hits and zero runs. She struck out three.

UP NEXT: The RedHawks travel to Louisville, Ky. to face No. 21 University of Arizona at 5 p.m. on March 6.
