PITTSBURGH – On Wednesday evening, the Miami University softball team downed the University of Pittsburgh 10-6. Six homers from five RedHawks helped Miami to the win. Miami moves to 23-6 (6-0 MAC) and Pittsburgh drops to 8-22 (0-9 ACC).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the top of the first, a pair of solo homers from Allie Cummins and Jenna Golembiewski put the RedHawks up 2-0.
- Still in that inning, Kate Kobayashi smashed a three-run homer that also scored Holly Blaska and Karli Spaid to up Miami's lead to 5-0.
- In the bottom of the second, a Pitt home run put them on the board, making it a 5-1 score.
- Sami Bewick lifted a homer over center field in the top of the third that also brought Kobayashi home to push the lead to 7-1.
- A two-run homer from the Panthers in the bottom of the third narrowed the gap to 7-3.
- Another run crossed for the Panthers in that same inning to make it 7-4, as a throw to catch a runner attempting to steal led to a run going across the plate.
- Spaid hit a two-run homer in the top of the sixth that also scored Cummins to widen the margin to 9-4.
- The Panthers hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 9-6 game.
- Kobayashi hit a solo homer to left field to start off the top of the seventh to account for the 10-6 final.
NOTES:
- Kobayashi went 3-for-3 at the plate and Cummins went 2-for-2.
- Spaid went 2-for-3 offensively.
- Cummins, Golembiewski, Spaid, Kobayashi and Bewick each hit homers, with Kobayashi hitting two.
- Madilyn Reeves went 5.1 innings in the circle, allowing only six hits and striking out three.
- Ashley Hitchcock was on the rubber for 1.2 innings and did not allow a single hit.
