OXFORD, Ohio – On Saturday afternoon, the Miami University RedHawks defeated the Ohio University Bobcats 5-2 to sweep the weekend series.
Madilyn Reeves was stellar in the circle to keep the Bobcats quiet offensively. Miami moves to 22-6 (6-0 Mid-American Conference). Ohio drops to 13-17 (1-5 MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the bottom of the first, Allie Cummins led off with a triple and Jenna Golembiewski followed with an RBI single down the left-field line to give the RedHawks a 1-0 lead.
- Golembiewski crossed the plate in that same inning when Kate Kobayashi walked with the bases loaded to double the Miami lead to 2-0.
- Through the second and third, neither team was able to add a run to the board.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Karli Spaid hit an RBI single that scored Hadley Parisien to up the lead to 3-0.
- Parisien hit a long homer over center field in the bottom of the fifth that also scored Chloe Parks to push the lead to 5-0.
- In the top of the seventh, the Bobcats got two runs on a double to avoid being shut out. The RedHawks held off the visitors through the end of the inning to take the game 5-2.
NOTES:
- Parisien had a home run for the second straight day and went 2-for-3 at the plate.
- Spaid and Golembiewski also produced multi-hit games for the Red and White.
- Miami had three stolen bases in the game.
- Cummins' triple was the second of her career and her first since Feb. 8, 2020.
- Reeves got the win in the circle, pitching a complete game, striking out two, and allowing only one extra-base hit. She allowed just one free pass.
