RedHawks Down Bobcats to Sweep Doubleheader

OXFORD, Ohio – After five and a half hours of softball on Friday night, the Miami University softball team swept its doubleheader against Ohio University. In game one, the RedHawks took down the Bobcats 10-4. Game two was much more high-scoring, as the RedHawks scored 10 runs in the first inning and prevailed by a score of 16-13. Miami moves to 21-6 (5-0 Mid-American Conference). Ohio drops to 13-16 (1-4 MAC).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
  • Ohio took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a hit by pitch and then a walk, both with the bases loaded.
  • The RedHawks halved the lead to 2-1 when a RBI double from Karli Spaid scored Maddi Banks in the bottom of the first.
  • The Bobcats extended their lead to 3-1 in the top of the first on a solo homer.
  • In the bottom of the third, the RedHawks scored four runs to take the lead. Spaid scored on a single from Holly Blaska. Blaska scored on a single from Chloe Parks. Kate Kobayashi crossed home on a passed ball. Finally, Parks scored on a RBI single from Reagan Bartholomew. This made it a 5-3 game.
  • In the top of the fourth, the Bobcats managed another run to cut the lead to 5-4.
  • Back-to-back homers from Bartholomew (where Sami Bewick also scored) and Hadley Parisien in the bottom of the fifth pushed the Miami lead to 8-4.
  • Blaska lifted a solo homer over center in the bottom of the sixth, and Bartholomew drove in Kobayashi on a RBI single to extend the lead to 10-4.
  • The RedHawks held this lead through the seventh to take the game 10-4.
 
NOTES:
  • The RedHawks had 12 hits, five of which were for extra bases.
  • Parisien had her first career home run.
  • Bartholomew and Blaska went 3-for-4 at the plate
  • Madilyn Reeves went five innings in the circle. She struck out two and allowed only seven hits.
  • Ashley Hitchcock finished the game on the rubber, going two innings and only allowed one base-runner.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
  • Ohio scored three on a pair of singles and a fielder's choice to put them up in the top of the first 3-0.
  • The RedHawks came back to take the lead in the bottom of the first. Parks hit a bases-clearing double that scored Blaska, Kobayashi, and Allie Cummins and tied the game. Later in that inning, Bartholomew walked with the bases loaded so that Bewick scored and made it 4-3.
  • Still in the first, a single from Parisien and a pair of bases-loaded walks from Cummins and Spaid scored Bewick, Banks, and Bartholomew to extend Miami's lead to 7-3.
  • Kobayashi cleared the bases with a three-run triple that scored Spaid, Cummins, and Parisien to stretch the first-inning lead to 10-3.
  • The Bobcats got four back in the top of the second on a sac groundout, a single, and a double to make it a 10-7 game.
  • Bewick and Banks crossed the plate in the bottom of the second on a pair of singles from Bartholomew and Parisien to up Miami's lead to 12-7.
  • Blaska scored on a single from Bewick in the bottom of the third. Bewick then scored on an error to push the score to 14-7.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Blaska hit an RBI single that scored Kari Krueger and upped the lead to 15-7.
  • Ohio grabbed a couple of runs on a double and single in the top of the fifth, cutting the deficit to 15-9.
  • Another double and single from the Bobcats later that inning scored three more to tighten the gap to 15-12.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, Banks crossed home on a double from Parisien to make it a 16-12 game.
  • The Bobcats made it 16-13 in the top of the sixth on a sac fly, but could not come back from the deficit, handing the RedHawks the 16-13 win.
 
NOTES:
  • The RedHawks had 15 hits in the game, including four doubles. This is one of only three total games this season where Miami did not have at least one home run.
  • Kobayashi, Parks, and Parisien each had three RBI.
  • Parisien went 3-for-4 at the plate.
  • Both Banks and Bartholomew went 2-for-3 offensively.
  • Hitchcock went 4.2 innings in the circle, striking out 2.
  • Addy Jarvis was on the bump for 2.1 innings. She struck out two and allowed only two hits.
