OXFORD, Ohio – On Tuesday night, freshman
Hadley Parisien's walk-off double helped secure an 8-7 win for the Miami softball team versus Louisville. The Cardinals fall to 19-10 on the season (0-3 ACC). The RedHawks move to 19-6 (3-0 MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Louisville put the first runs on the board with a two-run homer over center. 20 mile-an-hour plus winds blowing straight over center field were sure to help the Cardinals get on top 2-0 in the top of the first.
- Karli Spaid tied it up in the bottom of the first on a line drive homer down the right field line with the ball ricocheting off the RedHawks' batting cage facility. Allie Cummins also crossed to plate to make it 2-2.
- Still in the first, Sami Bewick hit a two-RBI single that scored Kate Kobayashi and Holly Blaska, doubling the RedHawks' runs to put them up 4-2. The hard-hitting RedHawks kept the first inning going for 35 minutes.
- The second, third, and fourth innings were quiet for both teams.
- In the top of the fourth Spaid made a double play, catching a low line drive, then throwing to Blaska across the diamond, to keep the Cardinals from loading the bases or scoring.
- A ground rule double from Louisville in the top of the fifth put one run across the plate, cutting the lead to 4-3.
- The Cardinals took the lead in the top of the sixth when a hit paired with an error allowed two runs across, making it a 5-4 game.
- Reagan Bartholomew evened the game 5-5 in the bottom of the sixth on a high solo homer over left field.
- Still in the sixth, Spaid hit an infield fly that then drew an error and allowed Parisien to cross home and give the RedHawks a 6-5 lead.
- The Cardinals took the lead back at 7-6 in the top of the seventh inning on a two-run home run.
- Kobayashi tied it 7-7 in the bottom of the seventh, smashing a solo homer over right field.
- In that same inning Parisien hit a walk-off RBI double to the left-center field wall to score pinch runner Logan Mueller and give the RedHawks the 8-7 win.
NOTES:
