RedHawks Capture Road Win at Akron, 58-48

AKRON, Ohio – Amber Tretter had 18 points and 10 rebounds as the Miami University women's basketball team captured a 58-48 win over the Akron Zips on Saturday afternoon. Miami improves to 5-15 overall and 3-7 in Mid-American Conference play, while the Zips fall to 7-13, 2-8 MAC.
 
Cori Lard had 12 points, five assists and five rebounds, while Hennessey Luu-Brown chipped in with 10 points and three steals as Miami never trailed in the contest. Miami out-rebounded the Zips, 40-31 and matched their season-low with 12 turnovers.
 
How it Happened:
  • Miami opened the contest on an 8-2 run, highlighted by triples from Lard and Tretter. Akron cut the deficit to 8-6, before Tretter scored back-to-back baskets as Miami led 12-8 midway through the first quarter. Akron tied the game at 14 apiece, but four-straight points to close the first spotted the RedHawks an 18-14 advantage.
  • Miami recorded the first six points of the second to take a 24-14 lead, but five quick points from the Zips made it 24-19 with 6:38 remaining in the first half. Jordan Tuff and Jada Scott scored Miami's final six points as the RedHawks went to the locker room with a 30-25 lead.
  • The RedHawks maintained their five-point advantage four minutes into the quarter, 37-32, but five straight from Luu-Brown matched Miami's largest lead to that point as the RedHawks led 42-32 midway through the third. Akron trimmed Miami's advantage down to eight, but seven-straight points from Tretter pushed Miami's lead back over double-digits once again. Miami led 49-36 after three quarters of play.
  • With a 7-2 run to begin the final stanza, Akron trailed by just eight with 6:21 remaining. Tuff and Jadyn Scott knocked in back-to-back jumpers to spot Miami a 55-43 lead. Miami maintained a double-digit lead the final five minutes of the contest to capture the victory.
 
Game Notes:
  • Jada Scott finished the contest with 11 rebounds, a new career-high.
  • Miami matched their season-low with 12 turnovers.
  • Jordan Tuff finished with a season-high nine points. She had scored 10 points all season long prior to the contest with the Zips.
  • Amber Tretter recorded her second-straight double-double and her fifth this season.
