RedHawks Fall in Double Overtime at Central Michigan, 76-73

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Five RedHawks scored in double figures for the Miami University women's basketball team in a 76-73 double-overtime loss at Central Michigan on Wednesday evening. Katey Richason scored a career-high 21 points for Miami (8-18, 5-10 MAC), while Capria Brown recorded 22 points for the Chippewas (6-20, 4-11 MAC).

Cori Lard added 15 points and five steals, Hennessey Luu-Brown and Jadyn Scott added 13 apiece and Amber Tretter chipped in with 10 points before fouling out late in the fourth quarter.

How it Happened:
  • Miami went scoreless for almost six minutes to begin the contest, but trailed just 5-2 after a Richason layup ended the Miami drought. Two minutes later Richason knocked down a triple to tie the game at five apiece. Luu-Brown's three pointer with two minutes left in the quarter gave Miami its first lead of the contest. Miami led 13-12 after 10 minutes of play.
  • The game was tied at 24-24 with two minutes left in the quarter, before CMU closed the half on an 8-2 run and led 32-26 as the teams went to the locker room.
  • CMU led 34-27 early in the third quarter before Tretter's putback, followed by a Lard layup shrunk the deficit to three points. The Chippewas answered with an 8-0, forcing a Miami timeout late in the quarter. A Jadyn Scott layup with 18 seconds left in the quarter made it 48-39 CMU entering the fourth.
  • The Chippewas once again claimed a double-digit advantage (52-41) with 8:26 to play. Nine straight points from Tretter and Jadyn Scott in less than two minutes made it 52-50 with 6:44 remaining and a pair of free throws from Lard tied the game at 52. Lard and Luu-Brown then knocked in back-to-back triples for a six-point Miami advantage midway through the final stanza. After the Chippewas made it a three-point game (62-59) with two minutes to play, Luu-Brown split a pair of defenders for a layup as the shot clock expired with 55 seconds to go. CMU cut the deficit to 64-62 with 45 seconds to play. After Miami's jumper fell short, CMU's layup with 1.8 seconds to go sent the game to overtime.
  • CMU led 69-68 following a triple with 1:44 to play. Richason added a three-pointer from the corner for a two-point Miami lead with 1:14 to go and the Chippewas tied the game at 71 moments later. CMU missed both free throws with 22 seconds remaining and the RedHawks missed two open looks as time expired to send the game to a second overtime.
  • The Chippewas scored the first five points of the second extra session. Jadyn Scott's put back made it 76-73 with just under a minute to go, but the RedHawks could get no closer.
