BOWLING GREEN, Ohio— Darweshi Hunter matched the game-high 20 points and led three RedHawks in double figures as the Miami University men's basketball team defeated Bowling Green State University 66-58 Tuesday evening at the Stroh Center.
Bradley Dean scored 15 points and
Anderson Mirambeaux added 11 points for the RedHawks (14-14, 8-7 MAC) on the night. The Falcons fall to 17-11 (8-7 MAC) on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Bowling Green began the game on a 7-0 run before Dean knocked down a pair of three-point jump shots to take an 8-7 lead. The Falcons once again began to pull ahead at 13-8, but a Jaquel Morris dunk and Hunter triple knotted the game up at 13 apiece with 13:08 remaining in the first half.
- Mekhi Cooper sliced through the lane for a right-handed layup, and Hunter followed this up with his second three of the game to take a 20-19 advantage. A couple free throws and an Mirambeaux layup sent the RedHawks into halftime trailing 28-25.
- A Hunter layup helped Miami regain the lead at 31-30 with 15:12 to play. The Falcons did not give in, retaking the lead and a pulling ahead 37-31. The Red and White remained determined, going on a 15-0 run to take back control at 46-37. Mirambeaux led the offensive push with back-to-back shots from beyond the arc and a layup during this span of time.
- A trio of three-pointers helped Miami match its largest lead of the game at 59-50 with just over four minutes remaining. Bowling Green responded by making it a one possession game at 60-58 with 1:32 on the game clock. The RedHawks went on to knock down numerous free throws to secure a 66-58 victory.
GAME NOTES:
- Eian Elmer recorded a career-high four blocks and added two steals.
- Dean notched a season-high six rebounds.
- Miami shot over 50% from the three-point line for the second game in a row (fifth time this season).
WHAT'S NEXT:
The Miami University men's basketball team will stay on the road and face off with Eastern Michigan on Saturday, Mar. 2 at 1 p.m. The RedHawks previously topped the Eagles 71-54 in Oxford, Ohio earlier this season.
