CLEMSON, S.C. – The Miami University softball team fell to the University of Mississippi 10-8 and to No. 9 Clemson University 10-1 on Saturday afternoon. Ole Miss moves to 11-2 on the season. Clemson goes to 9-2. The RedHawks drop to 8-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1:
- In the bottom of the first, Allie Cummins hit a bomb over left center to give the RedHawks a 1-0 lead over Ole Miss.
- The Rebels tied it up in the top of the second on an RBI double, evening the score 1-1.
- Reagan Bartholomew crossed the plate in the bottom of the second on a scoring error. Jenna Golembiewski then followed that up with a three-run home run that also scored Cummins and Chloe Parks to put Miami up 5-1.
- In the bottom of the third Bartholomew hit a two-run homer down the left field line that also scored Kate Kobayashi to extend the lead to 7-1.
- An RBI single from the Rebels in the top of the fourth brought in another run to shorten the gap to 7-2.
- In the top of the fifth a three-run homer and a solo homer brought the Rebels back into contention with a 7-6 score.
- An RBI double from Ole Miss in that same inning then tied the score. An RBI double then put them ahead 8-7.
- In the top of the seventh a two-run home run extended the Rebels lead to 10-7.
- Karli Spaid hit a solo home run to get the bottom of the seventh started, but unfortunately the RedHawks could not come back from the deficit, falling 10-8.
NOTES:
- Golembiewski and Bartholomew went 3-for-2 at the plate.
- Golembiewski had three RBI in the game.
- Cummins, Golembiewski, Spaid, and Bartholomew hit home runs.
- Addy Jarvis went four innings in the circle, striking out two.
- Madilyn Reeves went three innings on the rubber to finish the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
- On an error Clemson put one across in the bottom of the second. A grand slam later that same inning pushed their lead to 5-0.
- In the bottom of the third the Tigers put two more on the board with an RBI single to make it a 7-0 game.
- In the top of the fifth a sac fly from Golembiewski scored Hadley Parisien to put the RedHawks in the 7-1 game.
- A three-run home run from Clemson in the bottom of the fifth ended the game at 10-1.
NOTES:
- Cummins went 2-for-2 at the plate.
- Ashley Hitchcock went 4.1 innings in the circle.
- Sami Bewick, Bartholomew, Kobayashi, and Parks all went 1-for-2 at the plate.
