CLEMSON, S.C. – The Miami University softball team took down the University of Connecticut 6-3 on Friday afternoon. Strong offense, including a pair of doubles and a pair of homers, helped the RedHawks to the victory. The Red and White move to 8-0 on the season and the Huskies drop to 4-9.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Karli Spaid got things started for the RedHawks in the top of the first with a solo home run to put Miami on top 1-0.
- In the top of the fourth off a single from Chloe Parks, Kate Kobayashi and Holly Blaska both scored to up the lead to 3-0.
- A single from the Huskies in the bottom of the fourth cut the lead to 3-1.
- Jenna Golembiewski hit a solo home run to left center in the top of the fifth to extend the lead to 4-1.
- Connecticut trimmed the margin to 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run homer.
- In the top of the sixth, Parks brought Blaska home from second base on an RBI single. Hadley Parisien later hit an RBI single that scored Shelby Kunkel for the game's final run.
NOTES:
- Blaska (two doubles) and Parks (two singles) each went 2-for-3 at the plate.
- Parks had a game-high three RBI.
- Spaid has hit a home run in six of Miami's eight games this year, while Golembiewski has homered in five different games.
- Parisien had her first career RBI.
- Madilyn Reeves went five innings in the circle, striking out four and allowing only three runs.
- Addy Jarvis went the final two innings, retiring six batters in order and earning the save.
