MURFREESBORO, Tenn.— The RedHawks notched their first win of the season Friday evening against Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) in extras after a three-run homer from
Ty Batusich in the 10th inning secured a 10-6 victory. Miami amassed nine hits during the contest. The win was the first for head coach
Brian Smiley.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MTSU scored one run in the second inning and one in the third.
- During the third inning Tyler Gordon reached first base on an error by MTSU. Ty Batusich RBI singled up the middle to send Gordon home.
- In the fourth, a series of walks loaded the bases for Miami. Evan Appelwick was hit by a pitch, sending Zach MacDonald home.
- Dylan Baker then hit a two RBI double down the left field foul line, sending Ryan Novak and Anthony Zarlingo in to score and taking a 4-2 lead.
- MTSU scored four runs in the 7th inning, going up 6-4.
- During the eighth inning, Ryland Zaborowski and Tré Keels each hit a single. Appelwick walked to load the bases, Baker reached first base on an error and Zaborowski came home to score. This pushed the score to 6-5.
- MacDonald singled in the ninth inning with zero outs and proceeded to steal second. Zaborowski sent him to home plate on a single to right field, tying the game.
- Lukas Galdoni pitched three straight outs in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extras.
- Keels led off the 10th with a walk, and Appelwick reached on a throwing error, which sent Keels to third base. Baker followed with an RBI bunt single, and Keels scored.
- Batusich hit a three-run homer to right field on which Baker, Appelwick and himself scored.
- Galdoni turned three outs facing four batters in the bottom of the 10th to seal the RedHawks 10-6 victory.
MIAMI GAME NOTES
- Batusich went 2-for-6 with four RBIs and a run.
- MacDonald went 1-for-4 with two runs.
- Baker went 2-for-5 with one RBI and one run.
- Zaborowski went 2-for-5 with one RBI and one run.
- Galdoni gave up two hits and zero runs in 3.1 innings of pitching.
