#23 Hoosiers Defeat RedHawks 12-6

Bloomington, Ind. — The RedHawks came up short in a 12-6 loss against the 23rd ranked Indiana Hoosiers Tuesday after a big third, fifth and eighth inning from Indiana. Miami's offensive efforts were highlighted by home runs from MacDonald and Novak.

MIAMI GAME NOTES
Miami will head to Murfreesboro, Tenn., for a three game series against Middle Tennessee on Feb. 23-25. Game one starts at 4 p.m. ET.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Zach MacDonald hit a single home run in the first inning to put the RedHawks in front 1-0.
- Indiana answered with one run in the second inning.
- Evan Appelwick homered to left field during the third inning to give Miami a 2-1 lead.
- Indiana put up three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 4-2 lead.
- Appelwick was hit by a pitch with one out in the top of the fifth inning. A double by Tyler Gordon sent him to third. Ty Batusich followed this up by grounding out to second base, sending Appelwick in to score.
- MacDonald followed Batusich with an RBI bunt single which sent Gordon to home plate and tied the score at four apiece.
- Indiana put three more runs on the board during the bottom of the inning to go ahead 7-4 and one additional run in the sixth to make the score 8-4.
- With two outs in the seventh, David Novak hit a two-run home run on an empty count, sending himself and MacDonald (HBP) home and cutting the RedHawks' deficit to two runs.
- Indiana scored four runs in the eighth to end the game's scoring at 12-6.
MIAMI GAME NOTES
- MacDonald went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
- Appelwick went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
- Gordon went 1-for-2 with one run.
