Miami Falls at No. 12 St. Cloud State in OT

ST. CLOUD, Minn.– The Miami University hockey team battled No. 12/14 St. Cloud State through nearly 65 minutes on the road before the Huskies prevailed 3-2 late in overtime Friday night. Max Dukovac and Matt Choupani scored goals for the RedHawks (3-6-2, 0-1-0 NCHC), who earn a point in the NCHC standings with the result. Grant Ahcan led SCSU (7-3-0, 1-0-0 NCHC) with a pair of goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 10:19 1st (SCSU 1-0) | After both teams were whistled for penalties seconds apart in the first period, St. Cloud State took advantage of a brief penalty kill situation to grab a shorthanded goal and a 1-0 lead. SCSU's Mason Salquist tipped the puck ahead for Ahcan, who finished the breakaway at the other end.
  • 1:35 2nd (SCSU 2-0) | The Huskies doubled their advantage early in the middle stanza. Austin Burnevik fired a puck from the side boards that got past a screened Ethan Dahlmeir to make it 2-0. Karl Falk and Barrett Hall were credited with assists on the play.
  • 7:09 2nd (Miami 2-1) | The RedHawks responded to pull within one, as a pass along the blue line from Conner Hutchison set up a long-range blast from Dylan Moulton. Dukovac redirected the puck in mid-air as it went by to cut the SCSU lead to 2-1.
  • 14:57 2nd (Miami 2-2) | The Red and White evened the score on a Choupani goal later in the period. Choupani connected with Colby Ambrosio on a pass ahead, and Ambrosio was able to out-skate the Huskies' defense. His shot attempt was deflected and fell perfectly to Choupani trailing the play in the middle for the equalizer.
  • 4:43 OT (SCSU 3-2) | After both teams had multiple high-quality scoring opportunities in the 3-on-3 overtime, Ahcan lit the lamp with 17 seconds remaining in the extra session off a feed from Josh Zinger.
