RedHawks Rout Bobcats, 6-1

OXFORD, Ohio – On Wednesday afternoon the No. 3 Miami University field hockey team dominated No. 6 Ohio University in the Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship quarter final game to take a 6-1 victory. The RedHawks move to 11-7 on the season. The Bobcats finish their season 7-12.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Midway through the first quarter, Claudia Negrete Garcia put the RedHawks in front 1-0 with a penalty corner goal. Paula Navarro and Becca Kline also earned assists on the play.
  • Just under two minutes later, Negrete Garcia scored again on a penalty corner to double the lead 2-0. She was assisted by Navarro and Carlie Servis. The RedHawks held this lead through the end of the first.
  • The score remained unchanged through the second quarter, sending the RedHawks into the second half with a 2-0 lead.
  • Five minutes into the third quarter, Navarro gave the ball to Lucia Ventos at the top of the circle, so that Ventos could take it to the post for a goal, upping the lead to 3-0. This is her first goal of the season.
  • With just a minute and a half remaining in the third quarter, Paula Peña Martinez took the ball all the way to sink a goal unassisted and make it a 4-0 difference. Miami held this through the end of the quarter.
  • A minute and a half into the final quarter, the Bobcats managed a goal to shorten the gap to 4-1.
  • On a penalty corner just three minutes later, Peña Martinez earned herself a second goal to increase the RedHawk lead to 5-1. She was assisted by Navarro and Servis.
  • With just over two minutes remaining in the game, Peña Martinez made it a hat-trick, scoring on a pass from Meg Canfield. The RedHawks held this 6-1 lead through the conclusion of the game to take the win.

UP NEXT: The RedHawks move on to the semi-finals tomorrow, Nov. 7 at 2:30 p.m. to face No. 2 Appalachian State University.
