Miami Falls to Bowling Green in Three Sets

OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University volleyball team (7-17, 1-12 MAC) lost a three-set match (20-25, 19-25, 19-25) to Bowling Green (16-8, 11-2 MAC) Saturday evening at Millett Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The RedHawks got off to a hot start in the first set, as Chelsea Williams put down a pair of kills, along with Gentry Warrick, who added a kill and solo block to put Miami ahead 6-2. With the score tied at 15 apiece, Bowling Green recorded a service error, and Gracie Norris followed this up with a service ace to make it 17-15. Shortly after, the Falcons answered by taking the lead at 21-19. A service error brought Miami back within one at 21-20. Miami ultimately fell 25-20 in the first set.
  • The Falcons carried momentum into the second set, commanding an early 5-0 advantage. The Red and White fought its way back to trail by one at 8-7. Losing 18-12, the RedHawks went on to outscore the Falcons 6-3 to put the score at 21-18. Despite the strong push from the RedHawks, Bowling Green secured a 25-19 second set win.
  • Bowling Green began the third set with a 7-2 lead. Williams sparked the RedHawk offense with a couple kills, and Norris brought Miami within striking distance at 10-9 after recording a setter dump for a kill. The Falcons attempted to fend off the RedHawk offense, but Williams had other intentions, smacking a trio of kills to help Miami even the score at 18-18. Bowling Green responded by closing out the set with a 25-19 win.

NOTES:
  • Williams led all RedHawks with 11 kills (.474 hitting percentage).
  • Warrick finished second on the team with nine kills (.692 hitting percentage).
