Warrick Claims Spot in Miami History; RedHawks Drop 3-0 to NIU

OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University volleyball team (7-21, 1-16 MAC) fell to the Northern Illinois Huskies (4-23, 2-15) in a three-set match (18-25, 27-29, 21-25) Friday evening at Millett Hall. With tonight's solo block from Gentry Warrick, she is now tied for 10th all-time (54 total) in Miami's history.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Northern Illinois began the first set by claiming a 7-3 advantage. The RedHawks closed within one at 9-8 after Caroline Cermack put down a flurry of kills. Ellie Hanson served an ace and then followed it up with a kill to put the score at 15-13 in favor of the Huskies. Cermack stayed active late in the set, recording a trio of kills to remain within striking distance at 19-17. Northern Illinois managed to hold on to their lead, as they took the first set 25-18.
  • Chelsea Williams and Ana Vetter got the RedHawks going at the start of the second set, each putting down a pair of kills to take a 4-2 lead. The Red and White stretched its lead to 12-5 after Gracie Norris recorded a couple service aces. The RedHawks looked to close out the set at 20-12, but Northern Illinois fought back to even the score at 23-23. After some back-and-forth play, the Huskies sealed the second set 29-27.
  • The Red and White led 5-3 thanks to multiple kills and a solo block from Williams in the third set. The Huskies reclaimed the lead for the first time since the opening of the third set at 10-9. An attack error from Northern Illinois helped Miami regain the lead at 18-17. Raegan Lantz put down two late kills, but the effort wasn't enough, as the Huskies finished the third set with a 25-21 victory.

NOTES:
  • Norris reached over 300 assists on the season (303 total).
  • Lantz posted a career-high five blocks.
