MUNCIE, Ind. — The Miami University volleyball team (7-20, 1-15 MAC) dropped to the Ball State Cardinals (19-8, 12-4) in a three-set match (16-25, 20-25, 19-25) Tuesday night at Worthen Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Ball State opened play with a 12-5 advantage in the first set. After calling a timeout, Gentry Warrick put down a kill and service ace to spark the RedHawk offense. Caroline Cermack added to the offensive push with back-to-back kills, bringing Miami within four at 13-9. Warrick added a couple late kills, but the Cardinals finished off the set with a 25-15 victory.
- The Cardinals got off to another hot start in the second set, commanding a 9-3 lead. Numerous Ball State errors, a Raegan Lantz kill and an Ana Vetter kill closed the gap to 12-8. Ball State attempted to stretch its lead back out, but a collection of kills from Cermack and Vetter kept Miami within striking distance at 21-17. The Cardinals managed to fend off the RedHawks to win the second set 25-20.
- Warrick got the Red and White going in the third set with a pair of early kills to even the score at 3-3. Ball State managed to pull ahead 12-6 as the midpoint of the set approached. A Vetter kill that was followed up with a Cermack service ace shrank the Cardinals lead to 12-8. The RedHawk offense got going after Gracie Norris and Warrick combined for a block; Cermack also added a couple kills. Two consecutive attack errors from the Cardinals made it a two-point set at 19-17. Miami stayed in the fight at 22-19 but ultimately dropped 25-19.

- Cermack tied for the most kills of the match with 10 total.
