OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University volleyball team (7-16, 1-11 MAC) dropped a four-set match (15-25, 16-25, 29-27, 23-25) to Bowling Green (15-8, 10-2 MAC) Friday night at Millett Hall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Bowling Green opened the match with three unanswered points, but the RedHawks fought back, as Chelsea Williams put down a kill and the Falcons recorded an attack error to keep Miami within striking distance at 6-4. Bowling Green answered by extending its lead to 13-5. The Red and White fought until the end, ultimately dropping the set 25-15.
- A kill from Ana Vetter and Gentry Warrick evened things up at four apiece in the beginning of the second set. Trailing 18-10, Williams smacked a pair of kills, and Warrick added a kill of her own to put the score at 18-13. The Red and White came no closer, falling 25-16 in the second set.
- In the third set, Miami fell behind 6-3 before Warrick knocked down a couple kills and a solo block to even the score at 6-6. The Falcons eventually regained the lead and looked to close out the set at 16-10. Miami called a timeout late in the set, which sparked a Caroline Cermack kill and a Williams block to tie the score at 22-22. After more back-and-forth action, Miami sealed the set at 29-27 with a Lantz kill and Bowling Green attack error.
- Bowling Green had two early service errors, and Ava Francis capitalized on this with a service ace to put Miami ahead 4-2 in the fourth set. The Falcons responded by evening the score at 4-4 and looked to pull away at 7-5. As the set reached its midpoint, the score remained tight at 13-13. The RedHawks overtook the Falcons at 17-16 thanks to numerous errors from the away team. Bowling Green led 21-20 when Cermack served three consecutive aces to jump ahead 23-21. Despite the strong effort, Bowling Green closed out the fourth set with a 25-23 win.
NOTES:
- Vetter led Miami with 11 kills (.333 hitting percentage)
