RPI Nips Miami in OT

OXFORD, Ohio– The Miami University hockey team fell to RPI 3-2 in overtime Friday night at Steve "Coach" Cady Arena. Hampus Rydqvist and Matt Choupani scored for the RedHawks, who move to 3-4-2 on the season. Elliott McDermott led RPI (3-3-1) with two points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 10:38 1st (RPI 1-0) | RPI scored midway through the opening period, taking advantage of the game's first power play. McDermott fed the puck from the right point to John Beaton near the goalpost, and Beaton sent a diagonal pass to Felix Caron for a one-timer from the bottom of the faceoff circle.
  • 10:57 1st (Miami 1-1) | The RedHawks responded seconds later to tie the game at 1-1.  A Blake Mesenburg faceoff win in the offensive zone created the scoring chance, with Mesenburg getting the puck back from Dylan Moulton and firing it around the boards. Rydqvist rifled a shot from the blue line to beat RPI's Noah Giesbrecht and even the score.
  • 19:02 1st (Miami 2-1) | Miami grabbed a 2-1 lead before the opening intermission on a power-play goal from Choupani. Christophe Fillion got a piece of the puck behind the net and Johnny Waldron kept it alive in front. Choupani battled for the loose puck and jammed it home to give the RedHawks their first lead of the evening.
  • 7:00 2nd (RPI 2-2) | RPI capitalized on a neutral-zone turnover to knot the score at 2-2. Jagger Tapper took a pass from Jeremie Payant on the break and finished the play for the visitors' second goal.
  • 0:29 OT (RPI 3-2) | Jakob Lee notched the game-winner in overtime after getting the rebound from McDermott's shot. William Gilson knocked the puck off the faceoff to McDermott to get the play started.
