OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University volleyball team (6-10, 0-5 MAC) came up short in four sets (25-21, 21-25, 12-25, 15-25) to Ball State (9-7, 2-3 MAC) Tuesday evening at Millett Hall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The RedHawk offense came out ready to play in the first set, taking a four-point advantage at 10-6 thanks to a Caroline Cermack service ace. Lydia Michelin put down a kill and a pair of blocks to extend Miami's lead to 15-10. Ball State attempted a comeback but fell short, losing the set 25-21.
- The Cardinals began the second set with a 5-0 lead. Losing 14-9, the RedHawks went on a 7-0 run to claim the lead at 16-14. A kill from Chelsea Williams tied the set at 19 apiece. Ball State pulled away in the end, taking the second set 25-21.
- Ball State continued to find their flow in the third set, setting themselves apart 10-4 at the start. Gentry Warrick put down a couple of kills, but the RedHawks continued to trail at 13-6. A service ace from Margo Lawson, as well as a block from Breannah Peterson and Warrick, put the score at 21-12. The Cardinals sealed the third set with a 25-12 victory.
- The fourth set started with kills from Michelin and Ana Vetter to tie the set at 2-2. A few attack errors from the Cardinals and a Cermack kill made it a 15-8 set in favor of Ball State. Hayden Hicks recorded a late service ace, and Brooke Jackson added a kill, but the RedHawks ultimately dropped 25-15 in the final set of the night.
NOTES:
- Hicks led Miami with 32 assists.
- Williams put down the second most kills of the match (11).
