YPSILANTI, Mich. — The Miami University volleyball team (6-9, 0-4 MAC) dropped in five sets (20-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-22, 15-7) to Eastern Michigan (10-9, 4-1 MAC) Saturday evening at the George Gervin GameAbove Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Miami took an 8-5 lead at the start of the first set. Two consecutive attack errors from Eastern Michigan kept Miami in control at 13-7. The Red and White looked to finish off Eastern Michigan at 23-15 after Ellie Hanson knocked down a kill. The Eagles stayed resilient, scoring the next three points to trail 23-18. The RedHawks fended off the offensive push from the Eagles, finishing the first set with a 25-20 victory.
- The Red and White went on a 5-1 run in the beginning of the second to make the score 7-7. Gentry Warrick kept the RedHawks in it at 18-18 with a solo block. The last two points of the set came off of kills from Ana Vetter and Chelsea Williams to secure a 25-22 win for Miami.
- Miami rolled to a 6-3 advantage in the third set thanks to back-to-back service aces from Hanson and a Williams kill. The Eagles evened the score at 7-7 as the midpoint of the set approached. Another Williams kill and attack errors from the Eagles kept Miami within one at 17-16. The Red and White tied the set at 18 apiece but came no closer, falling 25-20.
- Hanson stayed hot from the service line, giving Miami a 3-1 lead in the fourth set after putting down a pair of service aces. The rest of the set consisted of back-and-forth action, with no team leading by more than two points until Eastern Michigan claimed a 16-13 lead. Williams smacked down a couple of kills to spark the offense, as the RedHawks went on to tie the set at 20-20. Eastern Michigan held off Miami to seal the fourth set 25-22.
- The Eagles opened the fifth set with six straight points. A couple of kills from Vetter and an Eastern Michigan attack error put the score at 9-4. Miami ultimately went on to drop the final set 15-7.
NOTES:
- Hanson matched her career-high of four service aces.
- Hayden Hicks tied the match-high with 26 assists.
