Miami, FSU Play to Tie for Second Straight Night

BIG RAPIDS, Mich.– The Miami University hockey team came away with a tie at Ferris State for the second time in two nights Saturday, earning a 4-4 result.

Casper Nassen, Colby Ambrosio, Blake Mesenburg and Ryan Sullivan lit the lamp for the RedHawks (0-0-2). Trevor Taulien led the Bulldogs (0-0-2) with a pair of goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 12:53 1st (Ferris State 1-0) | Although Miami had the better of the play in the opening period, it was the Bulldogs who grabbed a 1-0 lead on a goal by captain Travis Shoudy. Caiden Gault and Max Itagaki combined with Shoudy on a passing sequence to move the puck the length of the ice and create the scoring opportunity.
  • 14:30 1st (Miami 1-1) | Miami responded to its first deficit of the season in a matter of minutes with a power-play goal. Raimonds Vitolins found Michael Quinn at the point, and Quinn teed up Nassen for a one-time blast on the far side of the zone to even the score at 1-1.
  • 5:53 2nd (Ferris State 2-1) | FSU re-claimed the lead in the second period on a deep shot from the right wing by Taulien. Itagaki and Connor McGrath provided the assists.
  • 11:46 2nd (Miami 2-2) | Ambrosio lit the lamp for Miami near the game's midway point to make it 2-2 on a perfectly timed backdoor feed from Matt Choupani. After Hampus Rydqvist started the play by keeping the puck in the offensive zone, Choupani spun away from a defender along the end boards to deliver the primary assist, with Ambrosio doing the rest.
  • 13:31 2nd (Miami 3-2) | The RedHawks snatched the lead less than two minutes later on a shorthanded tally from Mesenburg. Michael Feenstra knocked the puck to Choupani, who started the 2-on-1 break and stickhandled past a Ferris State defender before connecting with Mesenburg. Mesenburg then deposited a backhanded finish past FSU's Noah West for his second goal in as many nights.
  • 15:05 2nd (Ferris State 3-3) | Ferris State came back to tie the score at 3-all after a shot by Taulien. The rebound deflected off the stick of a RedHawk and into the net. Andrew Noel and Jacob Badal were credited with assists for the home team.
  • 10:14 3rd (Ferris State 4-3) | The home team went back on top by a 4-3 score midway through the third period on a rebound goal. Nick Nardecchia finished the play off assists from Zach Faremouth and Matt Corbet.
  • 12:34 3rd (Miami 4-4) | Sullivan came through for the RedHawks with a power-play goal to equalize, ripping a one-timer off a perfect pass from Max Dukovac. Dukovac grabbed the puck after Nassen rocketed a shot into the crease and found Sullivan in the middle to make it 4-4.
