TOLEDO, Ohio — The Miami University volleyball team (7-14, 1-9 MAC) dropped a three-set decision (19-25, 19-25, 21-25) to Toledo (14-8, 7-3) Friday evening at Savage Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A trio of kills from Chelsea Williams gave Miami the start it was looking for to lead 7-3. The Rockets evened things up at 8-8 before Caroline Cermack put down a pair of kills, and Lydia Michelin recorded a solo block to jump ahead 14-11. After some back-and-forth action, Miami trailed 20-19. Toledo sealed the set with a 25-19 victory.
- Ana Vetter and Michelin scored the first five points of the second set for Miami to lead 5-1. The RedHawks attempted to fend off the Rockets, but the effort wasn't enough, as Toledo tied the score at 11-11 halfway through the set. Toledo looked to close out the set at 19-15, but a service error, as well as a block from Michelin and Cermack, brought Miami within two at 20-18. The Red and White did not come much closer, falling 25-19 in the second set.
- The third set was tied at 5-5 when Vetter recorded a service ace to give Miami the advantage. At the midpoint of the set, the Rockets had an attack error, and Vetter followed this up with an ace to knot the score at 15 apiece. Miami trailed by three at 23-20 after Toledo committed a service error, and the RedHawks put down two kills. The Rockets ultimately took the third set 25-21 and ended the match.
