Miami Falls at Robert Morris

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa.– Robert Morris held off a late charge from the Miami University hockey team and added a pair of empty-net goals down the stretch to defeat the RedHawks 4-1 Saturday night. Ryan Sullivan lit the lamp for Miami (2-2-2), while Walter Zacher produced a hat trick for the Colonials (2-0-0).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 0:32 1st (Robert Morris 1-0) | Zacher opened the scoring in the first minute of the game. Tanner Klimpke held the puck in the Colonials' offensive zone and found Cameron Garvey with a diagonal pass. Garvey hit Zacher with a backdoor feed and Zacher deposited it into the net to give RMU an early lead.
  • 13:05 2nd (Robert Morris 2-0) | After a breakaway chance for Miami's William Hallén was saved, the Colonials came back the other way on a 2-on-1 to double their lead. Klimpke sent a pass ahead to Zacher, and although Bruno Bruveris stopped his initial shot, Klimpke got a chance at the rebound in a scramble and Zacher finally backhanded it home.
  • 14:54 2nd (Miami 2-1) | The RedHawks pulled within one on a power-play goal later in the middle stanza. Michael Quinn's long-range blast created a rebound chance for Sullivan in front, and as Sullivan was going down to the ice, he fired the puck past RMU's Croix Kochendorfer. Casper Nassen had the secondary assist on the play for the Red and White.
  • 18:39 3rd (Robert Morris 3-1) | Miami had several quality chances to tie the game down the stretch in an extra-attacker situation, but RMU's Michael Craig was finally able to clear the puck the length of the ice for an empty-net goal. Kochendorfer was credited with the assist.
  • 19:03 3rd (Robert Morris 4-1) | RMU tacked on an empty-netter in the final minute, as Zacher scored off an assist from Garvey.
