Robert Morris Hands Miami First Loss of Season

OXFORD, Ohio– The Miami University hockey team dropped a 5-1 decision to Robert Morris Thursday night at Steve "Coach" Cady Arena. William Hallén scored the only goal for the RedHawks (2-1-2). The Colonials move to 1-0-0 on the year with the victory in their season opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • 4:29 1st (Robert Morris 1-0) | Trent Wilson opened the scoring for the visitors with a long-range shot that redirected off a skate in front of Bruno Bruveris. Michael Craig and Cody Monds had the assists on the play.
  • 15:39 1st (Robert Morris 2-0) | Wilson doubled the Colonials' lead later in the period, intercepting a pass in the neutral zone to start a rush for the visitors. A long pass the width of the rink from McKay Hayes to George Krotiris set up a 2-on-1 opportunity for Krotiris and Wilson, and Wilson finished with a backhand to make it 2-0.
  • 00:57 2nd (Robert Morris 3-0) | RMU's Trevor LeDonne exited the penalty box and immediately capitalized on a breakaway to push the margin to 3-0. Wilson found the puck in a scrum on the boards in the Colonials' defensive zone and got it to Braden Rourke, who sent it ahead to LeDonne.
  • 5:32 2nd (Robert Morris 4-0) | LeDonne collected his second goal of the period during a 4-on-2 break for the visitors. Mitch Deelstra brought the puck into the Colonials' offensive zone before handing it off to Michael Felsing, who found a trailing LeDonne for the shot to make it 4-0.
  • 10:46 2nd (Robert Morris 5-0) | Walter Zacher extended Robert Morris' advantage to 5-0, sticking with the play after his initial shot was blocked and knocking in a rebound. Tanner Klimpke and Cameron Garvey were credited with the assists.
  • 11:13 2nd (Miami 5-1) | The RedHawks answered back less than 30 seconds later, as Hallén fought for the puck behind the net and then deposited a shot past RMU's Croix Kochendorfer. Max Dukovac started the play by feeding the puck up the right boards, and Raimonds Vitolins sent it in deep to earn the primary assist.

NOTES:
  • The RedHawks are now 20-for-21 (.952) on the penalty kill this season.
  • Vitolins' assist was the 25th of his career.
  • Colby Ambrosio's penalty shot attempt in the third period was the RedHawks' first since Dec. 6, 2020.
  • The two teams finished even in shots on goal with 24 apiece; Ryan Sullivan matched his Miami career high with four shots on goal.
  • Miami won 30 of 47 faceoffs (63.8%), including Vitolins' seven wins in eight draws.
  • Ethan Dahlmeir made his home debut in net, coming on near the game's midway point and stopping all eight shots he faced.
