Miami Blasts Alaska Anchorage 4-1 for Series Sweep

OXFORD, Ohio– Matt Choupani scored two goals and Colby Ambrosio finished with three points as the Miami University hockey team blitzed Alaska Anchorage 4-1 Saturday night to finish off a series sweep. Bruno Bruveris earned the win in net, stopping 25 of the 26 shots he faced.

The RedHawks improve to 2-0-2, marking the program's first unbeaten start through four games since 2012-13. UAA falls to 0-4-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 3:43 1st (Miami 1-0) | Just minutes into the first period, Ambrosio took the puck himself all the way from Miami's own blue line for the game's first goal. Ambrosio weaved around one UAA player in the middle of the rink and then split two more defenders for an unassisted finish that put the RedHawks ahead 1-0.
  • 00:23 2nd (Miami 2-0) | Choupani doubled the RedHawk lead on the opening shift of the second period. Johnny Waldron fought through a check to win the puck back and knock it to Ambrosio, who fed a perfect backdoor pass through the crease for Choupani to deposit past UAA's Greg Orosz.
  • 14:12 2nd (Miami 3-0) | In the final second of a Miami power play, Casper Nassen broke the game open with a goal to make it 3-0. Michael Quinn's pass from the point found Raimonds Vitolins on his right, and Vitolins' diagonal pass set up Nassen for a one-time blast.
  • 15:10 2nd (Miami 4-0) | Less than a minute later, Choupani scored his second goal of the game on a wide-open net. Rihards Simanovičs sent a pass ahead to Ambrosio to spring a 3-on-2 break, with Ambrosio dishing to a trailing Waldron. Waldron made an extra pass to Choupani for a one-timer and a 4-0 cushion.
  • 13:39 3rd (Alaska Anchorage 4-1) | Dimitry Kebreau put the Seawolves on the board with an unassisted goal off a missed Miami pass to avoid the shutout and account for the final score.
