OXFORD, Ohio— The Miami men's basketball team came up short in a hard-fought game Tuesday night at Millett Hall, dropping a 78-73 decision to Bowling Green.
Reece Potter recorded a career-high 17 points to for the RedHawks (8-9, 2-3 MAC), while
Darweshi Hunter added 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Anderson Mirambeaux (12) and
Ryan Mabrey (13) also scored in double figures. Marcus Hill led the Falcons (13-4, 4-1 MAC) with 23 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Bowling Green jumped out to an early 5-0 lead at the start of the game. Mirambeaux bullied his way into the paint for a layup and followed this up with a three to knot the game at five apiece. The game remained tied at 8-8 with 15:39 to play in the first half, thanks to a three-point shot from Eian Elmer. The Falcons proceeded to score nine straight points to claim a 17-8 advantage. A jumper from Potter and a shot from downtown by Mabrey shrunk the lead to 17-13. A monster block at the rim from Jaquel Morris led to a transition layup to trail by six at 22-16.
- A quick pass through the lane from Mabrey to Potter led to a dunk at 31-23. Mekhi Cooper blew past a defender for a layup to make it 31-25. Potter knocked down back-to-back shots from behind the three-point line to come within two at 33-31 with 4:05 before the intermission. The Red and White evened the score at 33 after Morris flew through the lane for a layup. Time was expiring as Hunter put in a jump shot to enter halftime with a 37-36 lead.
- Miami entered the second half with a pair of layups to hold the lead at 41-40. Hunter put in his first three of the game, and Elmer threw a bounce pass across the court to Cooper for a layup to claim a 49-44 advantage. 14:37 remained when Mirambeaux and Morris scored a pair of layups to stretch Miami's lead to 53-46. Potter recorded two consecutive jump shots to stretch the score to 63-56 with under ten minutes to play.
- Hunter knocked in two jumpers, and Mabrey followed this up by making a three-point shot to make it 70-62 with 6:09 left on the game clock. The Falcons closed the gap to just four points at 71-67 before Mabrey made a floating bank shot to remain ahead 73-67. Bowling Green tied the match at 73-73 with 1:54 to play in regulation. Miami ultimately dropped to Bowling Green 78-73.
