Florida Atlantic Gets Past Miami

OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University volleyball team (2-3) fell in a four-set match to Florida Atlantic (4-3) Saturday afternoon at Millett Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Miami started the match with a flurry of kills to keep it tight at 12-11. Florida Atlantic then followed this up by stretching their lead to 17-11, but Miami stayed determined and closed within three at 21-18. The Owls went on to take the set 25-21.
  • A kill from Maggie McCrary and a service ace from Ellie Hanson got Miami's offense going at the start of the second set. The match was all tied up at 8-8 before the Owls were able to gain momentum and take a 19-14. Miami would not be deterred, tying the match at 25 apiece, but the effort came up just short as Florida Atlantic took the set 27-25.
  • The RedHawks got off to a hot start after Brooke Jackson recorded back-to-back kills at the beginning of the third set. The Red and White battled throughout the set until Florida Atlantic took the lead at 15-14. The Owls looked to finish off the set at 23-18, but Miami stormed back and claimed a 27-25 set victory.
  • Florida Atlantic took a 4-1 advantage as the fourth set got under way. The RedHawks then came back with a 4-1 run to even the match at 5-5. Despite a strong effort, the Owls were able to gain the lead and take the final set, 25-20.
