OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University volleyball team (2-4) fell in a three-set match to Eastern Kentucky (4-2) Saturday evening at Millett Hall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Miami started the match strong offensively, taking a 7-4 lead after Ellie Hanson recorded two consecutive kills. The Colonels tied the match at 8-8, but Freshmen Raegan Lantz and Chelsea Williams put down numerous kills to keep Miami in the competition. Eastern Kentucky went on to close out the set 25-21.
- Eastern Kentucky got off to a 6-2 start in the beginning of the second set. Redshirt-freshman Amyah Cooper came in and provided a spark to the Miami offense after knocking down three kills. The Red and White continued to claw their way back, eventually tying the set at 15 apiece. The Colonels went on to claim the set with a 25-21 win.
- Eastern Kentucky jumped out to an 11-5 lead in the third set. Miami remained determined, coming within three at 12-9, after numerous Eastern Kentucky attack errors and a pair of kills from Williams. The Colonels managed to keep their distance from the RedHawks and finished the set with a 25-17 win.
NOTES:
- Cooper saw the first action of her career.
- Hicks had the match-high 29 assists.

The RedHawks fly west to participate in the Illinois State Invitational Sept. 8-9. Miami takes on Saint Louis (Friday, Sept. 8), New Mexico State (Friday, Sept. 8) and Illinois State (Saturday, Sept. 9).
