RedHawks Capture 3-1 Win Against Mastodons

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Miami University volleyball team (4-7) picked up a four-set win against Purdue Fort Wayne (5-5) Friday evening in the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • A kill fom Ellie Hanson and Maggie McCrary got the Miami offense rolling in the first set. Despite close play early on, Miami looked to pull away after Hayden Hicks recorded a service ace to stretch the lead to 18-12. The Mastodons eventually closed the set with a 25-21 win. 
  • Chelsea Williams put down four kills at the beginning of the second set to give the RedHawks a 7-5 advantage. Shortly after, Purdue Fort Wayne tied the set at 11 apiece. A combination of late kills from Hanson and Williams propelled Miami to a 25-23 set win. No team led by more than four points the entire second set. 
  • The RedHawks got off to an 11-3 start in the third set after Raegan Lantz and Williams each knocked down a pair of kills. Hanson closed out the remainder of the set with five kills and a service ace to help Miami secure a 25-9 win. 
  • The Fourth set began with back-and-forth action. The score was tied at 9-9, before the RedHawks went on a 9-4 run to pull ahead 18-13. Gracie Norris sealed the match with a service ace to give the Red and White a 25-19 fourth set victory. 
NOTES:
  • Hicks led all players with 24 assists.
  • Warrick put down a career-high eight total blocks. 
  • Taylor Nomanson tied the match-high 14 digs.

The RedHawks conclude the invitational against Valparaiso Saturday, Sept. 16 at 1:30 p.m.
