OXFORD, Ohio-- The Miami University baseball team defeated the University of Akron by the score of 10-0 Saturday. The RedHawks improve to 18-31 (12-14 MAC) while the Zips drop to 17-29 (9-17 MAC). Miami poured on the runs through the whole game and slammed the door on the Zips, shutting them out and recording a 10-0 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:

Benji Brokemond kicked off the bottom of the first, reaching base on an error. Cooper Weiss singled through the left side. Both runners advanced on an error. Following the error, Brokemond scored on a wild pitch and Weiss advanced to third. Ryland Zaborowski followed up with a sac fly to score Weiss and make it 2-0 RedHawks for the first inning of work.

In the bottom of the third with one out, Brokemond reached base after being hit by pitch. Weiss followed up with a double to right center to drive Brokemond in. Weiss stole third and ended up scoring on an error by the catcher, making it 4-0 RedHawks through three innings.

Dillon Baker was hit by pitch to start the bottom of the fourth. He advanced to second on an error and stole third. Brian Zapp followed up with a single to right field, scoring Baker. After advancing to second on an error and third on a failed pickoff attempt, Zapp scored on a sac fly by Stephen Krause. With the bases empty, Zach MacDonald hit a home run to center field for the third and final run of the inning, making it 7-0 RedHawks.

With two outs and the bases empty in the bottom of the fifth, David Novak hit a solo shot to left center. Baker followed up with a single to right field. Applewick brought him around to score with a double to left center to make it 9-0 RedHawks through five.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Novak singled to left field. Baker followed up with a double. With runners on second and third, Zapp reached on an error, scoring Novak and making it 10-0 RedHawks.

Starting pitcher Kenten Egbert pitched seven shutout innings, allowing five hits and striking out eight.

In relief, Carson Byers recorded two innings of shutout baseball, allowing no hits and striking out four.
