HOW IT HAPPENED
- Miami struck right away, putting up a half-dozen runs in the top of the first. Four straight singles from Cooper Weiss, Ryland Zaborowski, David Novak and Dillon Baker put the RedHawks up 2-0. Zach MacDonald drove in Miami's third run with a two-out base hit to center field. A throwing error by McNeese's third baseman allowed Stephen Krause to reach second base and brought two more runs across for the visitors. After Buzzeo walked, Krause came around to score on another Cowboy error to make it 6-0.
- McNeese produced five runs in the bottom of the third to trim Miami's advantage to 6-5.
- After the Cowboys tied the game in the fifth, the RedHawks exploded for five runs in their next at-bat to re-take the lead. Buzzeo hit a solo shot to left to give the Red and White a 7-6 advantage. After Benji Brokemond singled and Weiss walked, Zaborowski came through with a two-run triple to stretch the margin to 9-6. Zaborowski came in to score on a throwing error that helped David Novak land on second base, with Novak ultimately crossing the plate after a wild pitch and Baker's RBI groundout.
- The RedHawks tacked on two more runs in the eighth to take a 13-6 lead. Brokemond led off with a base on balls and Weiss followed with a single. A successfully executed double steal put runners at second and third, and Zaborowski drew a walk to load the bases with no one out. A Novak ground ball plated a run for Miami, with a second run coming across after a throwing error by the Cowboys' second baseman.
NOTES
- Zaborowski and Baker each recorded a pair of RBIs with two hits apiece.
- Weiss matched his season high with two stolen bases.
- Connor Preisel threw 3.1 scoreless innings to pick up his second win of the year on the mound.
- The Miami pitching staff finished the season with a record 594 strikeouts.
