RedHawks Victorious in Game One Against EMU

YPSILANTI, Mich. — The Miami University baseball team took the first game of three against Eastern Michigan with a final score of 6-4 Friday. The RedHawks improve to 8-23, 5-8 MAC with the win over the Eagles (12-14, 4-9 MAC).

The RedHawks got on the board quickly, scoring two in the first. The Eagles kept it close through the game, taking the lead in the third. Miami regained the advantage in the seventh and never looked back. 


HOW IT HAPPENED

  • With one out in the first inning, Cooper Weiss reached base via walk. After advancing to second courtesy of a wild pitch, Weiss scored on a double down the left field line from Ryland Zaborowski. Parker Lester followed up with a single to score Zaborowski and put the RedHawks up 2-0 after an inning of work.

  • With one out in the second inning, Benji Brokemond doubled to center field. After advancing to third from a passed ball, Brokemond scored on a single to center field from Dillon Baker to make it 3-0 RedHawks.

  • Eastern Michigan scored three runs in the third inning to tie up the game at 3-3.

  • In the fourth inning, the Eagles tacked on another run to take their first lead of the game and put them up 4-3.

  • To start the top of the seventh inning, Baker reached base via walk.With back-to-back groundouts, Baker advanced to third. Zaborowski drew an intentional walk to bring Evan Appelwick to the plate. Appelwick singled to center field to score Baker. Zach MacDonald followed up with a single to left field to score Zaborowski and advance Appelwick to second. David Novak followed up with another single to score Appelwick and put the RedHawks back on top with a score of 6-4.


MIAMI GAME NOTES

  • Weiss recorded three walks.

  • Appelwick and Brokemond each went 3-4 at the plate.

  • Lawson Blackmore picked up the win after pitching four shutout innings, recording four strikeouts, two hits and no walks.
