Pratt Claims Another Shutout with 6-0 Victory over Ball State

MUNCIE, IND. – Brianna Pratt did not allow any runs to cross the plate to secure the 6-0 shutout win over Ball State University for the RedHawks on Tuesday. Hard-hitting performances by some of the RedHawks helped offensively. The loss drops the Cardinals to 24-22 overall and 14-10 in the Mid-American Conference. The win brings Miami to 28-16 on the season and 15-6 in MAC competition.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The RedHawks got it started early in the top of the first inning when Riley Coyne hit a sac ground out that scored Holly Blaska to get a 1-0 lead.
  • In that same inning Karli Spaid scored on a wild pitch, making it a 2-0 game.
  • In the top of the second Allie Cummins hit an RBI single which scored Maddi Banks and put the RedHawks' lead at 3-0.
  • In the top of the seventh Cummins homered to up the lead to 4-0.
  • Later in that same inning Coyne hit a 2-run homer that also scored Spaid to increase the deficit to 6-0, which would be the final score.
 
NOTES:
  • Cummins went 3-for-4 at the plate and Spaid went 2-for-3.
  • Pratt struck out nine and allowed only five hits.
  • Coyne had three RBI total.

UP NEXT: The RedHawks will face the Cardinals again tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Muncie, Ind. for a doubleheader that will determine the series' winner.
