OXFORD, Ohio – Eleven strikeouts from
Brianna Pratt helped the RedHawks secure the 1-0 shutout win over Oakland University on Saturday afternoon. This dropped Oakland to 12-13 on the season. In front of a record-breaking crowd attendance of 1,069 the RedHawks faced #1 Oklahoma and ultimately fell 13-1. The win brings the Sooners to 39-1. The split brings Miami to 24-16.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1) VS. OAKLAND:
- Through five and a half innings neither team was able to cross the plate.
- In the bottom of the sixth inning Riley Coyne hit an RBI single that would score Holly Blaska and give the RedHawks the 1-0 lead late in the game.
- Through the top of the seventh the RedHawks held the Grizzlies and took the game 1-0.
NOTES:
- Blaska went 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles.
- Coyne went 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of singles and an RBI.
- Pratt allowed only three hits the entire game and secured a 0.00 ERA. She walked only one.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2) VS OKLAHOMA:
- Despite neither team adding a run to the board after the first two innings, Miami secured two hits over the Sooners' one.
- In the top of the third the Sooners grabbed their first run and the lead on an RBI single to make the score 1-0.
- They then scored two more on an RBI double to make it 3-0.
- Maddi Banks responded immediately in the bottom of the third on the first pitch, taking one long over right field, cutting the Sooners' lead to 3-1. That home run was the Sooner pitcher's seventh run and fourth home run allowed on the season.
- Oklahoma upped their lead to 4-1 in the top of the fourth on a solo home run.
- In the top of the fifth the Sooners added two more on a two-run homer to increase the lead to 6-1.
- The Sooners added another pair of runs on another two-run home run in the top of the sixth. They then added one more on an RBI double to draw the deficit to 9-1.
- Four more runs were added to Oklahoma's lead in that same inning on a homer and an RBI single to make it a 13-1 game, which would be the final.
NOTES:
- Karli Spaid went 2-for-2 at the plate.
- Banks and Kate Kobayashi each went 1-for-2 at the plate.
- Pratt allowed only 13 hits to the hard-hitting Sooners.
- In Laurelai DePew's appearance in the circle she secured a strikeout.
