LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Despite a powerful grand slam from
Holly Blaska, the RedHawks fell to the University of Louisville 12-4 on Friday evening. All three RedHawk pitchers saw action in the game, with
Brianna Pratt going for 3.0 innings and both
Taylor Turner and
Laurelai DePew going for 0.2. The loss drops the RedHawks to 23-15 on the season and brings the Cardinals to 26-13.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the bottom of the first inning the Cardinals struck first, scoring one on a sac fly to take the 1-0 lead.
- The Cardinals increased their lead again in the bottom of the second when three scored on a triple and one scored on a sac groundout to make it 5-0.
- Louisville added another run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single to stretch the deficit to 6-0.
- In the top of the fourth Blaska cut the lead to 6-4 on a bases-clearing homer that would also score Allie Cummins, Adriana Barlow, and Riley Coyne.
- After a grand slam and an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth the Cardinals extended their lead to 11-4.
- On a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth the Cardinals took the game 12-4
NOTES:
- Blaska went 3-for-3 at the plate.
- Coyne went 2-for-3 at the plate.
- Coyne and Parks each hit a double.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks will hit the field in Oxford, Ohio on Saturday, April 15 at 1 p.m. to face Oakland University in the Miami Invitational.
