RedHawks Complete Sweep of Bowling Green With Pair of Shutouts

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The bats were electric for the RedHawks on Wednesday afternoon, as evidenced by their 13-0 and 8-0 shutout wins over Bowling Green State University. With these wins Miami swept the series and moved to 23-14 on the season and 11-6 in Mid-American Conference competition. The Falcons fall to 8-27 on the season and 1-14 in the MAC.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
  • The RedHawks took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first when Karli Spaid hit a three-run home run that also scored Allie Cummins and Holly Blaska.
  • In the top of the third the RedHawks upped the lead to 5-0 on a two-run home run from Jenna Golembiewski where Riley Coyne also scored.
  • Later in that inning Maddi Banks hit an RBI double that would score Adriana Barlow. Banks then scored along with Cummins on a single from Blaska to make the score 8-0.
  • Still in that inning, Coyne hit an RBI single that scored Spaid and Blaska. Golembiewski followed that up with a single that scored Coyne and Chloe Parks to widen the deficit to 12-0.
  • In the top of the fourth inning Cummins hit a solo home run to get the 13-0 lead, which would end up being the final score of the five-inning game.
 
NOTES:
  • Golembiewski went 2-for-3 at the plate and Blaska went 2-for-4.
  • In her three innings, Brianna Pratt allowed only one hit and had three strikeouts.
  • In her two innings, Taylor Turner allowed no hits, had no walks, and struck out two.
  • Every RedHawk batter that had a hit also had an RBI.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
  • On an infield fly from Riley Coyne in the top of the first inning Cummins scored, to get the RedHawks an early 1-0 lead.
  • Cummins scored in the top of the fifth on an RBI single from Blaska. Blaska then scored on an RBI from Spaid to grab a 3-0 lead.
  • In that same inning both Spaid and Parks were able to steal home to score and increase the score to 5-0.
  • Also in the fifth, Dylan Scott scored on a single from Barlow putting the score at 6-0.
  • In the top of the sixth Parks hit a sac ground out to score Blaska. Reagan Bartholomew then singled to allow Spaid to score and make it 8-0.
  • The RedHawks secured the 8-0 win in six innings.
 
NOTES:
  • Blaska went 3-for-4 at the plate.
  • Golembiewski went 1-for-2 at the plate.
  • Six different RedHawks had RBI.
  • In Pratt's four innings she allowed only three hits and struck out four.
  • In Turner's two innings she allowed only three hits and had one strikeout.

UP NEXT: The RedHawks will hit the field again on Friday, April 14 at 5 pm in Louisville, Kentucky to face the University of Louisville.
