RedHawks Fall to Bearcats in Extras

CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Miami University baseball team fell to the University of Cincinnati 7-5 in 10 innings Tuesday. The RedHawks drop to 9-25 (6-9 MAC) on the year. The Bearcats move to 15-19 (3-3 AAC).

The Cincinnati Bearcats kicked off the second round of the Nuxhall Classic, scoring one run in the first inning. The RedHawks kept it a close game, holding them to one run through six innings and tying it up in the seventh. Cincinnati took back the lead in the bottom of the seventh, only for the RedHawks to tie it up in the ninth and take it to extras. Miami fought back, but fell short in the 10th.


HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the bottom of the first inning, the Bearcats struck first with a solo home run to left center, making it 1-0 Bearcats.

  • In the top of the seventh inning, Zach MacDonald led off the inning with a walk. Nate Stone followed up with a single to left field. After a groundout advancing runners to second and third, Dillon Baker grounded out, pushing MacDonald to score and making it 1-1.

  • Cincinnati answered with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to make it 4-1 Bearcats.

  • In the top of the ninth, David Novak reached base on an error. MacDonald singled down the right field line. Brian Zapp reached base after being hit by a pitch. With the bases loaded, Baker singled up the middle to score two. Tommy Harrison tied it up with a single through the left side. One run scored to tie the game at a score of 4-4.

  • In the top of the 10th, MacDonald hit a solo homer to right field to give Miami its first lead of the night, making it 5-4 RedHawks.

  • In the bottom of the 10th, the Bearcats mustered a rally with a walk-off home run to claim a 7-5 victory.


MIAMI GAME NOTES

  • Miami's pitching staff recorded 12 total strikeouts.

  • Tyler Chadwick struck out five Bearcats in 2.1 innings of relief, allowing only one hit and no runs.

  • MacDonald hit his ninth home run of the season.
