PALO ALTO, Calif. – The RedHawks were shut out by #8 Stanford University in both games of the doubleheader on Sunday. In the first game the RedHawks suffered a 10-0 defeat, and in the second they fell 8-0. This brings Stanford to 19-2 on the season and drops the RedHawks to 9-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
- The Cardinal started the scoring off on a sac fly in the bottom of the first taking the early 1-0 lead.
- In the bottom of the second Stanford scored two more on a single and on an error, extending the lead 3-0.
- Stanford tacked on another few runs with an RBI bunt, a pair of singles, and a sac groundout to make the score 7-0.
- In the bottom of the fourth the Cardinal added a few runs on a single and a pair of walks, to add to the score 10-0, which would be the score through the end of the game.
NOTES:
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
- On an error, Stanford got the first run on the board in the bottom of the second to take a 1-0 lead.
- In the bottom of the third the Cardinal added a few runs to the board on a pair of single RBI, making the lead 4-0.
- The Cardinal added another run to the board to make it 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single.
- In the bottom of the fifth the Cardinal hit a walk-off 3-run home run to run-rule the RedHawks 8-0.
