PALO ALTO, Calif. – Despite
Karli Spaid's record breaking game, the RedHawks fell to the University of California Berkeley in an 8-inning game 12-11 on Saturday night. This brings Cal to 15-3 on the season and Miami to 9-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The RedHawks were the first to put a run on the board in the top of the third inning. On an RBI single from Chloe Parks Maddi Banks scored to take the 1-0 lead.
- The Bears answered in the bottom of the third, scoring two on a double to grab the 2-1 lead.
- In the top of the fourth the RedHawks tied it up 2-2 when Kate Kobayashi walked with the bases loaded, scoring Adrianna Barlow.
- Spaid then followed that up with a grand slam, scoring Riley Coyne, Kobayashi, and Banks, to take back the lead, 6-2.
- In the bottom of the fourth the Bears hit a pair of homeruns and a pair of RBI doubles to regain the lead, 7-6.
- Maggie Murphy hit a solo homerun in the top of the fifth to tie the game 7-7.
- In the top of the sixth Murphy hit a second homer so that herself, Spaid, and Kobayashi scored. Allie Cummins then scored on a sac fly from Shelby Kunkel to give the RedHawks the 11-7 lead.
- The Bears grabbed another couple of runs in the bottom of the sixth on a sac fly and RBI single to cut the deficit to 11-9.
- In the bottom of the seventh the Bears tied it up 11-11, scoring a run on an error and on a sac fly, which sent the game into extra innings.
- In the bottom of the eighth the Bears scored on an RBI single to win the game 12-11.
NOTES:
- Spaid broke both Miami's career RBI record and career run record. She earned 4 RBI and 2 runs in this game to make the new records 137 and 140 respectively.
- Murphy hit 2 home runs and had 4 RBI.
- Barlow went 2-for-3 at the plate.
