SOUTH BEND, IND. – Despite an offensively competitive start, the Miami University softball team fell to Notre Dame University 11-3 on Tuesday. This brings the Irish to 17-7 on the season and drops the RedHawks to 14-9.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Irish started it off in the bottom of the first inning, scoring three on a pair of RBI hits, taking the early 3-0 lead.
- In the top of the second inning the RedHawks cut the deficit to 3-2 on a home run by Jenna Golembiewski that also scored Karli Spaid.
- On an RBI single in the bottom of the third inning the Irish scored two to bring the score to 5-2.
- In the bottom of the fourth the Irish added to their lead on a three-run home run to make the score 8-2.
- On a fielder's choice in the top of the fifth inning Kate Kobayashi crossed the plate to make the score 8-3.
- The Irish added onto their lead in the bottom of the fifth on a solo home run and 2 RBI singles to widen the gap to 11-3 and end the game.
NOTES:
- Kobayashi went 2-for-2 at the plate.
- Golembiewski had two RBI.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks return home to face Northern Illinois University on March 24 at 3 p.m. in the first game of a three-game series in Oxford, Ohio.
