Miami Falls 4-2 to NIU in Series Finale

OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University baseball team fell to Northern Illinois by a score of 4-2 Sunday afternoon in the teams' series finale. The RedHawks scored in the ninth inning to pull within two and brought the tying run to the plate, but their comeback attempt came up short. Miami moves to 4-16 (2-4 MAC) on the year, while the Huskies improve to 4-15 (1-5 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Northern Illinois started the scoring with a run in the second inning and another in the sixth. The RedHawks answered in the bottom half of the sixth with a run of their own. Ryland Zaborowski tripled to left field and then came around to score on an RBI groundout by Zach MacDonald, trimming the visitors' lead to 2-1.
  • After NIU extended its advantage with runs in the seventh and ninth innings, Miami cut into the margin in its final at-bat. Cooper Weiss took advantage of an NIU throwing error to get on second base. Stephen Krause ripped a long double to right field to bring Weiss home, making the score 4-2.

NOTES
  • Krause finished 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.
  • Weiss was 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
  • Miami pitchers Kenten Egbert and Hudson Leach combined to strike out 12 NIU hitters.
  • Egbert allowed two earned runs in 5.1 IP in his first start of the season.
