OXFORD, Ohio— The Miami University baseball team fell to the Toledo Rockets by a final score of 5-2 Friday. The RedHawks drop to 2-12, 0-1 MAC. The Rockets are now 7-5, 1-0 MAC.
The RedHawks' first conference game of the 2023 season was a close fight. Leading 4-2 for most of the game, the Rockets tacked on an insurance run in the ninth inning to finish the scoring.
HOW IT HAPPENED

The bottom of the first kicked off with a leadoff walk by Evan Appelwick. Benji Brokemond grounded out to advance Appelwick to second. Parker Lester followed up with a single to center field to score Appelwick and make it 1-0 Miami.

The Rockets quickly answered with four runs in the top of the second.

In the bottom of the third, Zach MacDonald and Parker Lester led off the inning with back-to-back walks. Cooper Weiss followed up with a single to load the bases. David Novak hit into a double play while advancing the lead runner. MacDonald scored to make it 4-2 Toledo.

The RedHawks attempted to muster a rally in the bottom of the ninth but fell short with a final score of 5-2 Rockets.
