ATHENS, Ohio – Behind 24 points from
Ivy Wolf and 22 from
Peyton Scott, the Miami University women's basketball team picked up an 81-75 win over Ohio University in the Battle of the Bricks on Wednesday night. Miami (12-18, 7-10 MAC) closed the contest on a 14-6 run to keep its hopes alive for the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
Joining Wolf and Scott in double figures was
Maddi Cluse who added 14 points and eight rebounds. Ohio's (6-22, 4-13) Yaya Felder had a game-high 32 points.
How it Happened:
- Scott and Wolf combined for nine points behind the arc before the first media timeout as the RedHawks led 12-10 with 3:42 left in the opening quarter. Ohio answered with seven-straight before a triple from the corner from Clare Chambers closed the gap, 17-15. Ohio led 19-15 after the first.
- Despite Wolf connecting on her third triple of the game early in the second, Ohio pushed its advantage, 34-23. Scott's three-point play ended the OU run and Freeman converted a layup to close the deficit, 34-28. An Ohio three pointer gave the Bobcats their largest lead of the game, 42-30. Katey Richason connected on a triple of her own, with under a minute remaining in the half and Wolf beat the buzzer to send the RedHawks to the locker room down 42-35.
- Ohio once again pushed its lead back to double digits, leading 48-38 early in the third. Sydney Watkins and Cluse snuck past the defense on consecutive possessions for layups as the RedHawks trailed 48-42 at the third quarter media timeout. Out of the media timeout, Scott scored seven-straight to give Miami a 49-48 lead with 3:15 remaining in the third. Ohio led 55-54 heading to the fourth.
- Scott and OU's Felder went back-and-forth for the first six minutes of the fourth. Scott's second triple of the game gave Miami a 70-69 lead with 3:30 to play. Wolf provided Miami a four-point advantage, 73-69, connecting on a deep three-pointer as the shot clock expired with under two minutes to play. Ohio answered moments later with a triple of their own, making it 73-72 with 89 seconds remaining. Wolf's pull up from the foul line made it 75-72 and after Ohio went 1-for-2 from the free throw line, Freeman converted a three-point play to make it 78-73 with 37 seconds remaining. Ohio got as close as 78-75, but clutch free throws down the line captured the victory for the Red and White.
Game Notes:
- Wolf scored over 20 points for the 10th time this season.
- Wolf, Scott and Cluse combined to score 60 points, their second-best effort of the season
- Watkins had a career-best nine rebounds.
- Miami out-rebounded the Bobcats 38-25.
