Miami Wraps Up Regular Season vs. No. 8 WMU

Miami concludes the 2022-23 regular season with a home series against No. 8/8 Western Michigan. The RedHawks are 8-20-4 (3-16-3 NCHC) after a split at Minnesota Duluth last weekend, including a 4-1 win Saturday. WMU comes in at 21-12-1 (13-8-1 NCHC) after dropping a pair of home games to then-No. 3 Denver.
Both games will be streamed on NCHC.tv, with puck drop set for 7:05 p.m. on Friday, March 3 and 5:05 p.m. on Saturday, March 4 at Steve "Coach" Cady Arena. Greg Waddell's radio broadcasts will air on MiamiRedHawks.com Friday and WKBV 1490 AM (Richmond, Ind.) Saturday.
Western Michigan leads the all-time series 79-70-13 and is 16-2-2 in the past 20 meetings. The Broncos defeated Miami 7-1 and 5-2 in November in Kalamazoo, Mich. Miami is looking for its first win over WMU at Cady Arena since Feb. 2, 2018.
Matthew Barbolini leads Miami offensively in both goals (10) and assists (13). Eight RedHawks have at least 10 points this season, including three freshmen: John Waldron (9-5-14), Max Dukovac (1-11-12) and Axel Kumlin (3-7-10). Ludvig Persson, the reigning NCHC Goaltender of the Month and Co-Goaltender of the Week, is coming off a season-high 50 saves Saturday at UMD. The junior from Hindas, Sweden is 8-16-4 in net with a 3.41 GAA and .899 save percentage.
Miami will recognize nine seniors before Saturday's home finale: Jack Clement, Jack Olmstead, John Sladic, Ryan Savage, Joe Cassetti, Chase Pletzke, Logan Neaton, Carter McPhail and Alec Capstick. Entering this series, they have produced a total of 166 points in their RedHawk careers and played a total of 630 games for Miami.
Head coach Chris Bergeron and junior defenseman Hampus Rydqvist met with the media this week to preview the upcoming matchup against the Broncos.
