HOW IT HAPPENED
- After WMU took an early 4-3 lead, Miami responded with seven straight points to go up 10-4 on a three-pointer from Ryan Mabrey. The RedHawks would maintain their advantage through the period, stretching the margin out to 21-12 midway through the half on a pair of Mirambeaux free throws.
- A deep contested triple from Mekhi Lairy gave the RedHawks their biggest cushion of the opening 20 minutes at 37-27. Western buried a trio of three-pointers in a three-minute span late in the period to draw within 41-40, and Miami ended up taking a three-point lead to the locker room.
- Holding a 51-48 lead in the second half, Miami ripped off a 13-3 spurt to take control. The RedHawks' run included a 2-on-1 fast break that ended in a Kamari Williams jam, as well as a key rebound and putback from Jackson Kenyon to stretch Miami's lead back to double digits. The Red and White would lead by as many as 13 points with 6:19 to play at 66-53.
- Williams drained back-to-back crucial jumpers to put Miami up 73-61 with three minutes remaining, but Western Michigan wouldn't go away. The Broncos trimmed the deficit to five points at the one-minute mark (76-71), and the RedHawks made key free throws down the stretch to keep the visitors at bay. Miami finished the game 26-29 from the charity stripe (89.7%), including 17-20 on foul shots in the final period.
