RedHawks Earn 3-3 Tie at No. 5 St. Cloud State

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — The Miami University hockey team played to a 3-3 tie at No. 5/5 St. Cloud State Friday night. PJ Fletcher, Axel Kumlin, and William Hallén scored for the RedHawks (7-17-3, 2-13-2), while Ludvig Persson made 30 saves in net for Miami. The Huskies (18-8-1, 10-6-1) took an extra point in the conference standings when Micah Miller was the only skater to convert in a 20-player shootout. According to the NCHC, the 10-round shootout was the longest in conference history.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 4:34 1st (Miami 1-0) | The RedHawks got on the board first during a 4-on-4 situation in the opening period. Fletcher and Joe Cassetti combined to work the puck free from the end boards, with Fletcher snapping a pass over to Zane Demsey. Demsey got a trio of shots off in succession before Fletcher buried the final rebound for a 1-0 Miami lead.
  • 6:22 1st (SCSU 1-1) | St. Cloud State evened the score with a 5-on-5 goal less than two minutes later. Jack Rogers collected the puck after a SCSU faceoff win in the RedHawks' zone and fired it into the middle, where Cooper Wylie tipped it across to Aidan Spellacy for a diving finish.
  • 13:44 2nd (SCSU 2-1) | The Huskies took their only lead of the contest just after a power play expired in the second period. Veeti Miettinen carried the puck into the offensive zone before dropping it off for Ondrej Trejbal at the left point. Miettinen got the puck back and spun free to get off a shot from a tough angle that deflected into the Miami net. SCSU goaltender Dominic Basse was credited with an assist on the play.
  • 16:31 2nd (Miami 2-2) | In the final seconds of a power play, Kumlin equalized for Miami. Frankie Carogioiello fed Kumlin at the top of the zone, with Kumlin then sliding the puck across to Ryan Savage at the right point. Kumlin took a return pass from Savage and blasted a one-timer from just inside the blue line to tie the game at 2-2.
  • 3:24 3rd (Miami 3-2) | Miami capitalized on another 4-on-4 scenario early in the third period. After Jack Clement blocked a shot, Hallén pushed ahead and slid a pass to Max Dukovac to start a give-and-go. Trailing the play, Hallén received the return feed as he entered the offensive zone and quickly deposited a shot past Basse to give the visitors a 3-2 lead.
  • 13:29 3rd (SCSU 3-3) | The Huskies fought back to make it 3-3 with a shorthanded goal. Jami Krannila took a pass from Jack Peart and started a 2-on-1 break, with Mason Salquist in position on the far side of the net to tip home the centering pass.

NOTES
  • Miami was a perfect 8-for-8 on the penalty kill, including a 5-on-3 situation that lasted 1:57.
  • Kumlin scored his third goal of the year, with all three coming on the power play.
  • Hallén was named the Third Star of the Game.
  • Clement finished with a game-best +2 rating, matching his career-best.
